GRAM UJALA Scheme
In March 2021, the government introduced the GRAM UJALA program, which provides rural households with LED bulbs at a low cost of Rs. 10 per bulb.
Rural residents who participate in this program will receive 7- and 12-watt LED lights with a three-year warranty in exchange for their functional incandescent bulbs.
These bulbs will be distributed by Convergence Energy Services Ltd. (CESL), a state-owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Ltd.
In phase-I of the GRAM UJALA, the government plans to distribute one crore fifty lakh LED bulbs in order to match India’s climate change efforts. This will result in considerable energy savings of 2025 million kWh/year and CO2 reductions of 1.65 million tons CO2/year.
